MAIS UMA PANTOMIMA DA SONY

Aqui há poucos dias, várias fontes deram a notícia de que a National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) teria atribuído à Sony um Emmy de Tecnologia e Engenharia pelo Sixaxis, o comando da PlayStation 3 – e que, resumindo simplisticamente, permite controlar os jogos através da detecção de movimentos. Toda a gente estranhou: como é que o Sixaxis poderia ganhar o prémio ao Wii Remote, precisamente o inovador comando da Nintendo a que a Sony tentou apressada e desajeitadamante imitar?

Simples: a Sony voltou a iludir o público e o Sixaxis não ganhou Emmy nenhum. O galardão foi isso sim para o Dual Shock, o gamepad da PlayStation 2, com tecnologia de vibração que, por acaso, a Sony deixou de poder usar na terceira geração PlayStation porque a terá usado indevidamente.

Aqui está o comunicado oficial da Sony Computer Entertainment América (SCEA):

“LAS VEGAS, January 8, 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today announced that it has been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system’s SIXAXIS wireless controller. SCEA will receive this distinguished honor at an awards presentation being held tonight at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2007 in Las Vegas.”

Mais à frente no comunicado, o CEO da SCEA, Jack Tretton, comenta:

“The overwhelming consumer demand and critical acclaim for PS3 is a testament of the platform’s strength and the industry’s desire for a true next-generation entertainment system,” said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. “The full potential of this powerful machine has yet to be realized – what you’ve seen so far is just a taste of what will be on the table for 2007 and years to come.”

Mas como confirmou um representante da NATAS ao autor do blog Hydrapinion, Séamus Byrne:

“I understand you had contacted Cheryl Daly, Director of Communications at NATAS to confirm if Sony won for their PS3 controller. This is incorrect, Sony won for their dual shock analog controller. The award is from the Video Game Technology Group. It was nominated by our internal group and considered along with the Nintendo D-Pad both of which were considered Emmy worthy for the development of the generation of controllers that followed the classic joysticks.

I would like to confirm that Sony did not win for their PS3 controller, they won for their Dual Shock Analog controller”.

À data em que escrevo este post ainda não havia reacção da Sony Computer Entertainment. Resta saber se tudo não passou de um erro da Sony ou de uma jogada de marketing deliberada (e, nesse caso, pateta). Mas uma coisa é certa: depois de um ano inteiro em que a PlayStation foi arrastada pela lama por uma comunidade de jogadores enfurecidos com os ditos e desditos da empresa, depois de um lançamento da PlayStation 3 que está longe de ser cor de rosa, como é que a Sony volta a cometer uma argolada destas?
